Grappletown (Facebook / Instagram), a new wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) gym located at 140 N Main Street in Phoenix, Oregon, will open their doors on March 1, 2025. With a focus on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for athletes of all ages and skill levels, Grappletown is dedicated to helping students build strong foundations in both wrestling and BJJ, while also fostering a sense of community and personal growth.
A Dynamic and Supportive Training Environment
Whether you’re just starting your martial arts journey, refining your techniques, or training to compete at the highest levels, Grappletown offers the expert guidance you need to succeed. The gym provides a variety of classes designed for both beginners and experienced practitioners alike, ensuring that everyone can progress at their own pace.
Grappletown’s founders, Matt Greenberg and Kalé LeNeve Holmes, bring more than 40 years of combined experience in wrestling and BJJ.
Matt Greenberg is a former NCAA Division 1 All-American wrestler for Cornell University and a highly accomplished coach at the D1 collegiate level. In addition to his wrestling background, Matt holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has been coaching both disciplines in the Rogue Valley since relocating from Illinois in 2021. His wealth of experience at the highest levels of competition makes him an invaluable resource for students looking to improve their grappling skills.
Kalé LeNeve Holmes brings over 12 years of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earning his black belt in 2021. Kalé has trained with top-tier teams around the world, gaining a broad, global perspective of the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Beyond his martial arts expertise, Kalé has a deep knowledge of health and fitness, with over a decade of experience in kettlebell strength training and Vipassana Yoga. His teaching philosophy focuses not only on the technical aspects of Jiu-Jitsu but also on how martial arts can enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Together, Matt and Kalé offer a unique blend of expertise in both wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, making Grappletown the only gym in the Rogue Valley to offer such specialized instruction in both fields.

A Gym Built on Community
Beyond just a place to train, Grappletown seeks to become a central part of Phoenix’s revival as the town works to rebuild and restore itself following recent challenges. Their mission is to provide the highest quality training in amateur wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. These two powerful martial arts have evolved into complementary disciplines that form a comprehensive foundation for grappling, self-defense, and personal development.
“We are proud to be a part of Phoenix, and we’re committed to contributing to its growth and revitalization,” said Greenberg. “Grappletown isn’t just a gym; it’s a place where people of all backgrounds can come together to train, learn, and thrive.”
Classes for All Ages and Skill Levels
Grappletown offers a diverse range of classes, from beginner courses for those stepping onto the mat for the first time, to advanced classes for seasoned athletes looking to refine their skills and compete. The gym also places a strong emphasis on youth development, offering kids’ classes that foster confidence, teach valuable life skills, and provide a fun, safe environment for younger grapplers.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Grappletown is dedicated to providing top-tier training in both wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, while also supporting the physical, mental, and emotional growth of all its students. The gym’s vision is to create a welcoming space where everyone—regardless of age, experience, or goals—can grow and succeed in their martial arts journey.
For those looking to experience what Grappletown has to offer, the gym invites newcomers to try their first class for free.
“We can’t wait to see you on the mats,” said Holmes.
